Overview
A week that takes in the two parks most people come to Kenya for, with a Rift Valley conservancy in between to break the driving and change the pace. You sleep in lodges throughout, with a night in Nairobi at each end so flights are never tight.
The Mara gives you the predators, Kigio gives you walking country and quiet, and Amboseli gives you the elephant herds with Kilimanjaro behind them — the photograph everyone wants, and best in the early morning before the mountain clouds over.

Day by day

Day 1 Arrive Nairobi
Met at Jomo Kenyatta airport and transferred to your hotel. Nothing else planned: rest, and meet your driver-guide in the morning.

Day 2 Nairobi to the Masai Mara
After breakfast, the drive west and down into the Mara, with the landscape opening out as you go. Lunch at the lodge, then an afternoon game drive.

Day 3 A full day in the Mara
Long game runs morning and afternoon, looking for lion, cheetah and leopard, with enormous herds of grazing animals on the plains between them. The balloon flight, if you want it, goes up at dawn.

Day 4 Mara to Kigio Conservancy
North-east onto the floor of the Great Rift Valley, with a picnic lunch on the way. Kigio is a small conservancy on the Malewa river, quiet and green, and walking is allowed here.

Day 5 Kigio to Amboseli
An early start for the long leg south to Amboseli, which lies right under Kilimanjaro. Picnic lunch en route, and an afternoon drive once you have settled in.

Day 6 A full day in Amboseli
Wake to big-game country. Elephant, zebra, wildebeest, buffalo and, with luck, leopard, against the mountain — clearest at first light and again at dusk. Two game drives, with the hot middle of the day at the lodge.

Day 7 Amboseli to Nairobi
A morning drive out of the park, then the road north to Nairobi. Dropped at your city hotel or the airport for your flight.
